All the best to Gareth for his opening night on monday.
Some lucky people got to see him over the weekend as Joseph and he has had good reviews.

We saw Gareth last night (9th Feb) in his official debut show. He was much, much, much better than I had expected. We go to see Joseph regularly because our daughter is in the children's ensemble (Levi team). We were sorry to see Lee leave and believed that would signal the beginning of the end for its current run. Gareth was clearly nervous to start off with, but amazingly turned out to be a better actor and better singer than Lee (though possibly not such a powerful voice and arguably not so good looking) in our musically-ignorant opinion. Even his six pack was better than expected. The acting was a surprise, he actually put some feeling into it and you could see some of his natural personality also shining through. It was a great night, with everyone on their feet clapping along. My daughter, who fancies herself as a Joseph connoisseur, even gave him a grudging thumbs up (obviously as supporting actor to her staring lead in the chorus). Well done Gareth - you won us over!

Thank you very much Clare. We all have our favourites and we think each time they leave the show no one will ever replace them in our affections, but they do and will continue to do so, with each Joseph bringing their own specialness to the show. This is why the site has been running for so long, Joseph gets in your blood.
How proud you must be to have a daughter on the stage in West End at such a young age.
I will be going to see Gareth later on in the year, as we also have a few ex Joseph boys in the cast from recent years, some behind the scenes too.
Lynda xx

Thank you Clare for your review of Gareth. It's great to read he's doing so well. We have many reports of Gareth in various places and differing views on whether he is "better" or not. I don't think I could say whether he was "better" because theatre is just so subjective. What is to someone's taste is not to another. From what I've heard of Gareth's voice it is very different to Lee's which is great to have a change.
I completely agree with Lynda that each Joseph brings something special to the show, and this is why the show has been running for so long.

We hadn't been able to see Jo for 3 months so we decided to treat ourselves & see Gareth on Saturday & we had a fantastic time On Friday the theatre said they had a few tickets left so we hoped they wouldn't all get sold by Saturday. When we got to Leicester Square we went to the half price ticket booth (as they had tickets in the week) but they didn't have any, so we went to the theatre & were delighted to find that they had the 2 restricted ones at the end of row B. So feeling very happy we decided to go to the SD. We just got to the top of the alley by the theatre & Gareth walked past. Some people at the SD stopped him for quick photos & we asked him if he would come out after & he said he would. We saw a few of the cast go in including Russel Hicken & we got talking to 2 Dutch girls who were seeing the show for the third day running, even though they haven't see Dutch Joseph yet. We loved Gareth playing Jo. He acted the part well & has a great voice. In some of the songs he started softly & then got stronger & CED was very powerful. He gestured to Pharaoh to "pick me" in "Find a man....." & he was on our side of the stage a lot when he was in his loincloth!!! The brothers were very angry with their sticks on our side & Zebulun kept poking Ben with his. We needed several pairs of eyes to watch Gareth & everyone else at the same time. Pharaoh got angry with one of the choir girls & pinched her hairband & it was nice to hear King of my Heart again. Towards the end of the megamix Judah told everyone to clap & get up & dance so we didn't need telling twice!!! Lots of people got up & by the time Gareth went up on the lift most people around us were up dancing. Michael was away on holiday & we didn't see Stuart. Brad & Jonathan (the swings) were on & there was one guy we didn't recognise. He told us that he was Simon Coulthard - he was a swing till June & he was back for a few weeks as Mark was off. Then Gareth came out & happily posed for photos & autographs & when he'd seen everyone he went back in. We thought he was lovely & we went home on cloud 99 (and the train).
