Any Dream Will Do News 09 June 2007 The Final Our three remaining Josephs sang for your votes, and we said goodbye to Lewis. It was the moment of truth for Keith, Lee and Lewis - only one of them could be Joseph, and this was their final chance to prove that they deserved the role. They had two songs each to win your votes, but how did they fare? Taking to the stage first of all was Lewis, singing Tom Jones's Kiss. John opened by saying: "You know I'm your toughest critic, and I have to say - showman, showman, showman! I wish you'd done a performance like that five weeks ago - you would never have been in the bottom two." Bill agreed: "That boy has endured more than anyone else over the last eight weeks, and he's standing in front of us, a star in the final. In this competition, you're a winner and you're a man." Andrew said: "You were fantastic - thank goodness you danced, it's so wonderful to see you dance. You've made the best journey of anyone I've seen on this programme." Keith was next to perform, singing For Once In My Life by Stevie Wonder. Zoe looked back on Keith's journey during the show: "The first time I heard you sing, I thought you were really good. When I hear you sing now, you knock me for six." Denise was similarly reflective: "You've got better and better each week. You sing fantastically every week. You're a superstore superstar." Andrew agreed: "You were really using your voice, and it was really quite wonderful. You really, really can sing wonderfully and you will have a career whatever happens tonight." Next up was Lee, singing Elvis's (You're The) Devil In Disguise. John commented: "You're a superstar. There were some tuning issues, but I'll leave those up to Zoe - I forgave you for them because the audience love you. You're the quintessential leading man, Lee Mead." Zoe explained: "These boys have worked like you can't believe - Lee, I have been tough on you these past weeks. That's because I know what your capabilities are. You look like an angel, you sing like an angel - stunning." Bill praised Lee by describing how "he takes these songs and he makes them his own." Andrew, as ever, had the last word: "It was terrific - a really great performance. I know how hard you've worked this week." For their second songs of the night, the three finalists all tackled big band numbers. Lewis went first, singing Beyond The Sea. Zoe was full of praise, saying: "Lewis has been on the biggest vocal journey. I'm so proud of you, you're breaking my heart tonight." Bill was equally impressed with Lewis's performance: "I think you've got a great voice. The amazing thing about you is, as Andrew says, you've matured and matured and matured." Andrew finished by saying: "Whether or not you are a year or two too young, I can't say, but you've come through magnificently. You took the song with a maturity that I would not have dreamt you had at the beginning of the programme." Keith was next, singing Moondance. Denise contributed an impression: "I'm going to do a John Barrowman - hot, hot, hot! We had an issue with your movement at the start of this show, but now you move like a panther." John, not to be outdone, said: "Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic! You've grown, you've matured - you're a leading man!" Andrew said: "You've got fantastic talent, and we've seen two performances back to back - the acting, I'm not sure about." Lee brought the performances to a close with a performance of New York, New York. Bill had a confession to make: "Lee, this is my moment of truth. I know what you've given up to take on this competition, I know what a gamble it is for you. You've worked for me, you've understudied for me. I should've seen back then what everyone else has been seeing for the past eight weeks. You're not an understudy, you're a leading man. You've taught me an awful lot this series." Zoe had more praise for Lee: "That was an amazing performance. There couldn't have been a finer song to show your fine, fine voice." Andrew finished the comments by saying: "You're a fantastic performer. You're a great showman, you've got everything." After all three finalists performed Maria from West Side Story, and a welcome return from Connie Fisher performing The Sound Of Music, it was time to announce the name of the Joseph finishing in third place. Graham announced that Lewis was going home, leaving Keith and Lee to battle it out for the role of Joseph. Lewis said "I can't even speak - thank you everybody. It has been absolutely amazing." Andrew said: "You will be in the West End - good luck to you." ©copyright www.bbc.co.uk/joseph
