Our own Naomi Slater is Cinderella at Stockport Plaza
A good script makes all the difference to this traditional pantomime which has been devised and directed by David Vickers and Richard Chandler.
Martin Daniels as Buttons in Cinderella at the Stockport Plaza
Although Cinderella herself doesn’t appear until half an hour into the proceedings, Naomi Slater is worth waiting for as she has a pleasant personality and vocals to match.
Bubbly Lisa Riley wears a fabulous costume as the loveable Fairy Godmother who lights up the stage with her huge personality, achieving an instant rapport with the audience. There are two principal boys in Nicola Foxfield, who’s a dashing Prince Charming and sings well, but Majella Fitzgerald as Dandini must watch some nervous hand movements.
Martin Daniels is a pleasant enough Buttons but magic tricks in the middle of the story line are rather old-fashioned and unnecessary.
There’s comedy from Robert Pearce and Rodney Ward as the Ugly Sisters but the Brokers’ Men seem rather superfluous.
Money has obviously been spent on this production with glittering costumes and sets and a delightful transformation scene. This pantomime may still be rather too long, but it’s a huge improvement on last year’s show and Extravaganza Productions is to be congratulated for successfully building on constructive criticism.
