Saw J&H today at BHam Hippodrome, another Bill Kenwright production.
Marti Pellow is the lead, our lovely Martin Dickenson is his first cover.
The show reminded me of Les Mis and Phantom of the Opera all rolled into one. One of the "ladies of the night" Lucy has an amazing voice. A few interesting songs I was only familiar with This is the Moment.
I was a bit disappointed with the transformation of Jekyll to Hyde, as the only difference being as Hyde his hair falls over one side of his face and he wears a cloak with a fur collar, otherwise its a bit hard to guess which character is which for a few mins.
Also, from my seat on the left side of the theatre, it was impossible to see whatever was happening in the huge mirror on the right as a gas lamp on Dr Jekyll's work surface was obstructing my view.
I thought the ending was a bit disappointing it was a case of " oh is that it" I expected more drama.
Quite a long first half about 90 mins
I met Martin after the show, he hasnt changed a bit apart from the fact he now has short hair. ;D
Its a show well worth seeing. xxx
