Meet Joseph…An Interview with Keith Jack!
This afternoon, Wyvern’s Press & PR Officer Tatjana and Marketing Intern Jenni managed to grab a quick interview with ‘Joseph’ star Keith Jack between warming up with the rest of the cast on the Wyvern’s stage and preparing for this afternoons performance. Sat in the comfy green room sofas situated backstage, we asked him a few questions about performing in Swindon and playing Joseph! Here’s what he had to say:
Did you enjoy the show last night? How would you rate the Swindon audience?
I loved it! The Swindon audience was nice and loud. Sometimes on press nights, it can be quiet but they were really loud which was good.
Are you enjoying your time here in Swindon?
Yes, it’s nice. But I haven’t seen a lot of it, only seen the gym and the high street so far!
What is your favourite musical?
My favourite musical would have to be Phantom of the Opera or Les Mis.
How do you unwind after a show?
I normally unwind with a DVD. Mike (Dance captain) and I have just started watching ‘True Blood’ series 1. We’ve got really into it! We bought box sets 1, 2 and 3 to watch whilst we are on tour.
How do you prepare before a show? Do you have any before show traditions?
I always have a Black coals sweet before I go on!
What advice would you give young people in Swindon who would like to go into musical theatre?
Go for it no matter what happens! When I was younger I played football but also loved singing. I used to get called names but I would say just go for it.
How would you compare playing The Narrator to playing Joseph?
Completely different! For me personally, Joseph has more grit and as it’s a male role I find it more relatable, where as the Narrator role is normally played by a female. I enjoy playing both roles but the Narrator just tells the story, playing Joseph you get to use your emotions to convey the story.
Would you rather win the lottery or bag your dream West End role?
[Dramatic Pause] Dream West-End role!
We ended our interview with a picture and let Keith dash off so he could get ready for today’s matinee performance. We wish him lots of luck with the rest of the tour.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’s run at the Wyvern continues this evening until Sunday 29th May and tickets are still available.

Interview with Collette Coleman
Jenny interviewed Collette Coleman who is appearing as a Handmaiden in Joseph this week. Having performed at the Wyvern many times in various Summer Youth Projects and SALOS productions, she tells us how she feels about returning to the Swindon stage.
Hi Collette, So you’re on tour with Joseph, how is that going? Are you enjoying it?
It’s going really well thank you. Yes I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have been on the tour since September 2010 and have been to some really lovely places, plus the cast are all amazing which really helps!
You’re no stranger to the Wyvern stage, having performed on it quite a lot when you were younger. How does it feel to be coming back?
It feels very strange yet also like I’ve never left! This theatre means a lot to me, I had my first stage experience at the Wyvern!
What was your favourite production you performed in here?
I did so many that I really loved but I think my two favourites were Jesus Christ Superstar with SALOS and playing the role of Sarah Brown in Guys n Dolls with Swindon Youth Project.
We have our next Summer Youth Project, Anything Goes, coming up soon, do you have any advice for our young performers?
Just to work hard, take on board everything you get taught during rehearsals/classes and most importantly enjoy yourself!
And finally, what has been your career highlight so far?
I have been very lucky so far and met some wonderful people and been to amazing places, however I think my career highlight has to be the audience responses we get in Joseph - there is nothing like being on stage with a full standing ovation infront of you!
