Witty, funny, energetic, and superb. Joseph is a must see

PEOPLE were dancing and singing in their seats as Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat burst on to the stage at the Theatre Royal Brighton this week.
The dazzling colours, amazing music, talented singers and beautiful set were enough to lift anyone’s spirits as the show swept us up in an energetic and witty take on the biblical story.
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice have done themselves proud, creating a masterpiece, which is both funny and magical, but still manages to stir emotion in the audience – for me this was when Joseph is jailed in Egypt.
Keith Jack, who plays Joseph is the star of the show, (in my opinion he should have won the BBC’s Any Dream Will Do competition) and I could feel the tears forming in my eyes as he sang Close Every Door to Me.
He has a powerful and passionate voice. I much prefer this to the polished, sometimes too careful performers who do not let a note slip out of place.
Keith’s emotive vocalisation is believable and makes you feel his anguish and despair, as well as his happiness and joy.
The eleven brothers are brilliant, during the performance they offer clever asides which have the audience rolling around in their seats.
The Joseph Choir were also wonderful and were the icing on the cake for this excellent performance.
The show does not take itself too seriously and actively encourages the audience to get involved, clapping hands and singing along to classics Any Dream Will Do and Give Me My Coloured Coat.
I particularly enjoyed the ending where instead of the actors taking to the stage to bow, they burst right back into song, giving the audience one last rendition of each song in the show.
It was absolutely wonderful. I’m not sure anything I can write can quite do it justice, you just have to go and see it.
Witty, funny, energetic, and superb. A must see.
Joseph runs from Wednesday June 22 to Sunday June 26.
