Slava Snow Show
This was a very different piece of theatre to the norm. Clowns, no singing or dancing. Miming to a few Russina songs. TBH I dont really know what it was all about. A clown comes on stage pulling a piece of hangman's rope, he is joined by a taller clown, later on we see around 6 more all with red long noses and silly hats. Lots of looking at the audience pulling faces, walking across the stage from left to right. Walking across the seats, dont sit in front row you will get sprayed with water.
Some people in the audience laughed out loud when Slava the main clown is having a one way conversation with two large foam telephones,. maybe I have had a humour bypass but I didnt see the funny side.
Loved it when the clowns at either end of the stage handover a huge cobweb stretching the length of the stage to the front row of the audience who in turn pass it overhead with outstretched arms to the row behind them, all the way to the back row. We all got caught up in the cobweb, it was great fun and you couldnt help but laugh at the daftness of it. It got caught in our hair, clothes, snagged on rings, while all this was happening a huge spider speeds across the stage.
During the snow scene towards the end, a huge amount of pretend snow in the form of small bits of tissue were blown across all the audience, think everyone in the stalls were covered from head to foot. The finale had inflatable coloured balls the largest approx 8ft diameter, then varying sizes all gently pushed into the audience, some even reach the boxes and front circle.
Its very hard to sum up this show. The cast dont have much to do in the way of singing or dancing (non in fact) but the idea for the show is very different, the outlay for the tissue and balls cant be that much to justify the cost of the ticket maybe it costs a lot for extra cleaners to come it and clear up, but overall it had the feel good factor and everyone came out smiling, even people like me who dont like clowns at all, I have never got their slapstick humour.(not a custard pie in sight may I add).
You know when a new baby makes everyone smile and it doesnt have to do anything but lay there in your arms, this is what the snow show gives you the same effect. It is worth a visit if it comes near you, and its at the Bham Hippodrome til saturday.
