Saw Big Friendly Giant on wednesday. Its on at Derby Live. the small theatre is inside the Westfield shopping complex, if you head for the indoor Eagle Market within Westfield the entrance is opposite, Dont go to stage door no one uses it, they use the foyer instead.
This is the first play I have seen and didnt know the story at all. Sophie is either a puppet or a real life person. The giants are real size people in most scenes, other times the BFG is a very large puppet. Lloyd is a fleshlumper eater amongst other roles. Not much singing in it as its a play, it could do with some songs actually. The audience were school groups of mainly 4-7 year olds, a few of the little ones had to be taken out as they were scared when "nasty" giants come amongst the audience. Very noisy audience talking and eating sweets.
I actually quite enjoyed it towards the end of the first half onwards. Some toilet humour which the kids loved.Read Roald Dahl's book if you dont know the story. On til 14th January 2012.
