I think most people have either been in thier own schools production of Joseph (me included) or have seen one at some point. I find school productions great as its wonderful to see how the school tells the story. This thread is for those of you who have seen, been in or going to putting on a school version of Joseph, tell us about and let us know how it went

I was in a school show dressed as a hula hula girl aged 11, and wore a coconut shell bra and a grass skirt. (wonder if it was South Pacific) In another scene was in the choir and it took my mum all week to knit me a cardigan especially so I had something new to wear on stage, couldnt afford to go and buy a new one. We only had new clothes at christmas . hee hee I sound like uncle albert in Only Fools and Horses with his catchphrase - "during the war"

I think we have found a new Joseph in Sam. In a few years time look out for him, he already looks the part. Great pics on the choir site of you in your coat Sam. You look handsome, you look smart....................... such a dazzling coat of many colours.

I went to see my old school's production of Jo last night - it was fab!! Shame they didn't do it 3 years ago then I could've been in it myself They had 2 narrators who alternated singing each verse. They also had 2 Josephs, 1 was about 12 and one a bit older. They swapped over the role in Close Every Door, the youngest sang the 1st verse, they both sang the middle and the oldest finished it. They had 2 people dancing throughout CED, bit like the apache dance in the touring production. It was a version from the 70's they did so some of the words were a bit different and they didn't start with "Some Folks Dream" just at "Way, way back .... " The Pharaoh was really good, he had a bright blue outfit. At the end Jo came down the aisle from the back on a bike with a pattern on the side to make it his Chariot of Gold. The 2 dreamcoats they had were really good, the Textiles class had made them. Looked like great fun to be in and it'll keep me going till I see the tour again

Sometimes it's good to go back to the roots of Joseph and watch a school production of the show.
Last night I went to see the production put on by Seaford Head Community College in East Sussex.
The performance was a cross between the tour, the West End and an amateur production with bits from all featuring.
The Narrator was played by Florence Chisholm and I will not be surprised if I see her in the future in a professional production as she had a great voice and amazing stage presence.
Jacob Lawton played Joseph and got across the simplicity and innocence of the role.
Robert Willis as Pharaoh was exceptional and had the lip curling and hip swaying to perfection.
Being the first night, there were the inevitable forgotten words and missed cues but each time they were covered up really well and did not put off the performer.
Other points to note:
The lighting department managed to get the timing right of every colour in Joseph's Coat - something that doesn't always happen by a professional crew. Camel puppets were used for the Ishmelites, ably supported by sheep and goat puppets at various points. Potiphar's wife, played by Jessica Bass, was played as a bored housewife rather than a spoilt wife - an interesting spin on it. They turned the first few verses of Go Go Go Joseph into a ballad - never heard it sung that way before and it made a nice change. The orchestra performed well throughout - it's not an easy piece for a school orchestra, there's no stopping once it starts!
They finished the show with the Megamix (from the Jason D Soundtrack version) and they all still had boundless energy to keep up with the dance routine.
All in all, I really liked the show, congratulations to everyone involved both onstage and behind the scenes.
