I didnt really want to go and see this but bought a friend of a friends ticket as she couldnt go, and I was in need of show.
Woooooooooooooooo I am so glad I did, I laughed all the way through Acorn Antiques.
It was written 21 years ago by Victoria Wood as a spoof of soap operas with wobbly scenery i.e. Coronation Street and especially Crossroads. These days its musicals, the opening scene is very like a poor mans Chicago, but with rubber gloves. I couldnt quite tell which other musicals it was taking the mickey out of except for Les Miserables. I am sure other theatregoes will though.
Ria Jones (ex Joseph narrator) was Mrs Overall she was fantastic in the Julie Walters role. So I cant get away from Joseph if I tried
Even got to see a topless male blonde totty !!!!!!!!!!
Season and I changed seats at the interval, as there was one nice aisle seat that juts out so you get a good view (no we didnt have two front row seats as we usually do) and the other seat had a lady in front with a big head, so part of the view was obstructed by her. I had three cackling witches alongside of me they seemed to laugh at even the slightest thing that wasnt remotely funny, I think they were trying to out do one another AND they were rattling their sweeties bag. Gods strewth why do they have to have sweets. Still I got my own back on them by having a coughing fit. mind you that starts all the others coughers off.
As it was a matinee the theatre was full of cauliflower heads and walking sticks, but even they couldnt spoil our enjoyment.
If you get chance when Acorn Antiques is near you do go and see it you wont be disappointed. Even the conductor took a bow with a rubber glove on one hand.
A Pleasant afternoon at my favourite theatre, just what the doctor would have ordered .
Hope you are going to see a show soon, nothing quite like a nice bit of theatre.
Love
