Saw the matinee of Wicked on Wednesday and what a fab show it is, altho in places its a bit loud - particularly when Nigel Planer first appears as the Wizard of Oz - that's enough to frighten small children as his voice is projected through a giant mechanical head and there's a mechanical dragon with red flashing eyes suspended above the front of the stage.
I loved Kerry Ellis as Elphaba she has an amazing voice, which made me wish I'd seen Idina Menzel in the role so I would have been able to compare them.
Helen Dallimore as Glinda had a bit of a graty voice which got on my nerves in places, especially in the first half when she kept repeating my names Galinda!! I know its part of the show but it was irritating.I did like her entrance suspened in a pendulum(spl?) like a fairy godmother in panto.
James Gillan was fab as Boq (he's so cute) but then I loved him in Starlight Express and Adam Garcia as Fiyero grew on me.I've read conflicting reports on his performance so I was quite suprised by him as I didn't see Saturday Night Fever when he was in it.
The show was funny in places especially when Galinda & Elphaba first meet, the costumes were colourful and I've never seen so many different shades of green in the second half.
I certainly see it again if I could find a different way of travelling to London that meant I wouldn't suffer for days afterwards and I could still walk by the time I got home.
I should also mention Nadine Cox ex Jo Narrator is in the ensemble.
