Lee Mead & Connie Fisher on Christmas
When we caught up with BBC talent show winners Lee (Joseph) and Connie (Maria) they were more than happy to get glammed up for our 1940s-style shoot, with both sporting new hairdos. (Lee admitted he’s only had his straightened once before, but seemed to like the new look – perhaps he’ll get a pair of ghds from Santa?)
First things first, who are you going to be kissing under the mistletoe this year?
Connie: Santa. And Andrew Lloyd Webber – a big kiss for everything he’s done for me this year – and Lee Mead, definitely, oh, and my boyfriend Neil. He likes dressing up as Father Christmas for me, I might sit on his knee...
Lee: I’m not sure yet, I’ve just broken up with my girlfriend, so we’ll have to wait and see.
What’s your best Christmas memory?
Connie: As a family, I remember spending Christmas in a farmhouse with a big log fire. My Dad was in the army so when we finally settled and had our first Christmas together it was amazing. It’s the one true happy, family Christmas I can remember – we weren’t living in army barracks or at someone else’s house.
What’s been your best Christmas present?
Lee: Probably a Norman Wisdom DVD set. That might sound geeky, but I thought it was great. I’ve had bad Christmas presents, the dodgy shampoo or aftershave from your nan.
Where are you spending Christmas?
Connie: I’m going home to my mum in Wales. I’m hoping we’ll go out for Christmas dinner as I’m the world’s worst cook.
Lee: I’m going home to Essex. We’ll have some nice food – I like to cook, I’m not amazing but I try – and we’ll kick back and have a few drinks.
What are your New Year’s resolutions?
Connie: To never go back to telesales, well not this year anyway...
Lee: I want to just embrace the new year.
