John Barrowman, Robin Hood
Well this was one spectacular show, no expensive spared here. Last year's panto with JB broke all Birmingham Hippodrome records, this year's broke that record before the show had even opened.
This afternoon's matinee was a full house, mostly adults.I had an elderly chap twice my size overspilling onto my seat and floor space. Woman in front was taking photos, so an usher had words with her in the interval.
JB rose onto the stage from the trap door to a welcoming roar. Not so much Robin Hood in tights, more in tight stretchy trousers. Don Maclean Birminghams own comedian and panto dame of many years was Friar Tuck, who in the role had to dress as a woman "Mrs Doubtfire" and during the show had many dress changes, one funny costume with huge bouncy boobies that hung low like a bag of sand had dropped to the bottom, then swung them around to his back. The things that can be done with falsies these days!!!
Titan the robot was about 9' tall, very scary at first viewing. Good sound effects when he is walking on stage. Even the ventriloquists dummy poohed his pants.
The usual story line, boy meets girl, rescues girl from the evil baddy. There was a devil woman casting her magic spells. Girl disappears under a blanket. JB is chained to a table of death with spikes ready to fall and pierce him to oblivion, but hey presto there he is in one of the royal boxes . Its magic.
Nottingham has a Fair and the circus people come to town, no daisy the cow but we did have an elephant, for those who saw the panto last year, it was the same pretend elephant. A huge clown about 16' high, jugglers etc.,
A couple of Russian ice skating stars gave a wonderful display of their skills on the ice rink on the stage, then Robin and Maid Marion also sang and danced on the ice. Beautiful. Well done JB
Don McClean sang about indian food to the Nessa Dorma ( never know how to spell that) tune.
High light for me was a rip off of Spamalot and the Knights of the round table. If ppl had not seen Spamalot they wouldnt know why it was there.
JB mentioned Go Go Joseph, said tongue in cheek, it was his favourite musical. He also mentions ALW being ugly. He also said he had found his Nancy when he fell in love with Maid Marion
Some sword fighting scenes/archery comp, the bows are pulled back, but I didnt see any arrows, until it was Robin's turn to shoot.
Titan was the"ghost" in the well loved "Its Behind You" scene.
It was a really good show, well worth a visit.
I didnt do any stage dooring so sorry no new photos.

Ta. How did Phantom go ? What was our very own Simon Bailey like as Raoul. I couldnt possibily sit thru it again. Twice was enough and that was only because Lee Mead was in it and Tan and Season wanted to see him.

Phantom was good!! Simon Bailey gave a good performance, although I'm not too keen on the character Raoul, he has a nice voice!
