We went to London last Wednesday to try to see the matinee as we thought there would be a better chance of getting tickets then rather than the evening & also to see Fiona narrate. Our train was very late arriving & by the time we got to the theatre the show had started but there was no tickets left anyway but there was 2 for the evening so we quickly bought those. The show was great & Lee was just as fantastic as before & we are getting used to the show being different to the tour. We decided to go to the SD to see the cast & we met quite a few of them. We hoped Lee would come out that way after he'd been out at the front of the theatre but he went out of the side door. Still it was great to see him in the show & to meet the cast.

I was due to meet Lee today at the Adelphi before the show for a general catch up. However, when I got to Euston there had been a road traffic accident. there was a queue for taxis of about 300 ppl. The Tube was the same, so I decided to get the bus. OMG it took 40 mins for a 7 min journey. So of course I was late, by which time Lee had another meeting. Bless the lovely boy he did phone me but I was on the bus but I couldnt get to him in time. When we got past the Aldwych theatre, the driver said he had had enough and was going home, and told us all to get off the bus and walk the rest of the way to Trafalgar Square.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The things that happen to me I couldnt make up. No chance of meeting Lee after the show due to his other committments. Lee was on top form as Joseph. I thought he looked trimmer and firmer. The cast have started to put their own little touches here and there and were fab. Adam, the Baker is losing weight due to the mega mix at the end, those boys and girls never need to go to the gym. I dont remember seeing the vulture sitting on top of the Well before, it prob was there, just I never saw it. Fiona was narrator today, she was superb. John Alistair was Jacob. He was great. I like the pharoah song, but it would be better on a tribute to Elvis show, you are right it does not belong in Joseph.

You'll like this - I am still on cloud 9!!! Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is going to take up a lot of room and I've still to post about other aspects of my day that made the whole thing special and the show itself - but I make no apologies - Lee is worth writing this much about! What a weekend I’ve had! Rachel will have no doubt been giving you her own account of it. Sorry you’ve had to wait for mine but Glasgow takes a bit of getting back to from London and then it takes a fair while to get down from cloud nine long enough to string together something coherent!!! Firstly can I just say, I am sure you are maybe wondering why Rachel was asked to take the place of my friend who couldn’t make the show? Why didn’t I just say on the forum that I had a ticket and offer it up for grabs? Well, I knew there would be too many offers and too many people to disappoint so after asking another friend who could not come on that particular date, I asked our LoveLEEs trip organiser and she accepted! And may I say what a lovelee girl she is - Rachel it was a pleasure to meet you and I’m glad to have made a new friend. Hope we stay in touch - we shared a pretty special day! I have to say (and some people can vouch for this) that I was a little nervous before setting out on my trip to see Joseph. Would I meet Lee? Would he live up to my expectations? Can he really be THAT loveLEE?! I have to say, I wasn’t really doubting Lee - I’ve had no reason to from what other people have said and really no right either. However, people have had a habit of disappointing me in the past and so I was worried that my illusions may be shattered. They WERE NOT!!! What happened yesterday has only confirmed and strengthened what I had always hoped was true - Lee Mead IS the down to earth, kind and considerate, gorgeous man we all think of him as - He just is!!!! On this long weekend from Saturday to Monday I have met some really lovely people, including Rachel, I met friends of my friends that I haven’t met before who were really warm, welcoming and friendly. And can I just say at this point that of the people I met during this trip, Lee Mead, star of Joseph, though he is, is no exception - He is an absolute gem of a man! So anyone with the same fears, however seemingly irrational - do not fear! Lee will relax you and put you at ease pretty much immediately! Okay - here we go! I met Rachel about 4.15pm outside the Adelphi. How my heart began to pound as I approached that LoveLEE big neon technicoloured sign! We recognised each other and gave each other a hug and made our way round to the stage door. No one there - we were the only fans. So we waited and chatted and chatted and waited - giggling as we talked over each others' shoulders to keep an eye on who might be arriving!…… Then we started to see the wives arriving and Adam who plays Issachar (who is always first- I am reliably informed.) The street was quiet - hardly anyone even in the little beer garden next to the stage door and suddenly at about 5.30pm Rachel said, “There’s Lee.” I turned around and there he was just strolling down the street, curls bouncing, as he walked towards the stage door. We crossed the road from LoveLEEs corner and walked up to him. And what follows went something like this: Lee: (all smiles and lovely, bouncy curls!) Hi girls. (He was wearing Jeans, that greeney grey stripey t-shirt with the purpley print on it that he's been pictured in before for signings, and a brown leather jacket - he just looked yummy!) Us: Hi Lee. (as this point Rachel pretty much let me have my time with him - although she experienced the whole meeting with Lee too and his smiles and giggles were shared between us! Thanks Rachel for letting me talk to him when you had done so already. Me: Hello, Lee, can I please just shake your hand and say Congratulations? Lee: (outstretching hand and looking overwhelmed that I had asked him) Of course you can, sure. I shake Lee’s hand - Lee’s hand in mine - wonderful good, strong hand shake! I really wanted to meet him properly and make sure he knew how much I appreciated his talent. I thought, has anyone actually shaken this man’s hand before and told him well done? Okay, that’s my mission - and I did it! Lee: You coming to see the show tonight, are you? Me: Oh yes, we are. My friends and I have come from Glasgow to see you and we're really looking forward to it! Lee: Oh cool! Oh, well, enjoy it cos it's a really good cast, so.... (he always remembers the cast!) (clocking my camera) Do you want photos? Me: (Rachel and I look at each other and smile) That would be lovely, do you have the time? Lee: Sure, I can’t be too long though, cos I have to go in soon.... Me: Oh, thank you! Would you mind signing some things for us first please? Lee: Sure (I open my little autograph book) (He looks directly at me and smiles) Okay, who is it to? (Lee waits for a reply) Me: (absolutely flabbergasted at the fact that Lee Mead is about to give ME a personalised autograph of his own free will!) Em, (voice slightly shakey and desperately trying to remember my own name! ), oh, thanks, it’s Liz. Lee: Liz? (he said my name!!!!!) Me: Yes, oh thank you very much Lee. Lee: No problem. He wrote : To Liz, with love, Lee Mead x I don't know why I should get a personalised one - perhaps it was because I shook his hand? I don't know but I think he liked that. Me: (I think I said something like "that’s lovely") Could I ask you to do one for my friend please? (My friend Aileen who was going to the show that night but as she has Spina Bifida and walks with crutches, decided to stay in the hotel room to rest beforehand) Lee: Sure, what’s the name? Me: It’s Aileen. Lee: Aileen? How do you spell that? Then he tried to spell it out : Lee: A, I, L, E, - is it N? (writing it at the same time) Me: Em, it’s actually E E N Lee: Ooh, (giggle) sorry. (and he tried to correct his mistake on Aileen’s autograph without making it messy! So, so cute!!! Aileen’s autograph read the same as mine……. Me: (I at this point actually said the words - Blessings on YOU for doing that Lee, that’s so sweet of you! (Yes I did actually say those words! ) Lee: (giggle) That’s alright. Lee: There you go, okay, a picture.(or words to that effect) Me: Okay Lee stood close and stretched his hand over my head and around to my back and I put my arm around him. Rachel took the picture as he gave me a squeeze (much the same way a friend or a relative might when getting a photo with you) and I gave him a squeeze back and I believe I may have put my head on his shoulder (even if only for a split second) at this point as if to say - awww this is so nice that you are doing this and I really appreciate it! Me, seeing the opportunity to stand like that a little bit longer said, “Rachel could you just take one more - just one?” (I know, a bit naughty of me, but Lee didn't mind.) Lee: (another squeeze and a giggle) Okay (Pic 2 taken) Rachel: Oh that’s a good one. Lee gave me a pat on my back then. Me: Lee could Rachel possibly have a quick pic with you? Lee: Okay, sure (stepped in close to Rachel and got pic. (lovely one too - will post all pics soon) Me: Thank you so much for doing all that Lee, and taking the time to do it. Lee: Your welcome, darlin' (he called me darlin'!) Enjoy the show, cos it’s a great cast too. (ever mindful of the rest of the cast getting equal praise - bless him!) Me: Oh, I know, and we will, thank you. Lee: Okay, bye girls (and he walked off down the street to get his sandwich at the corner shop. On his return as he walked up to the stage door he winked at us both as he went in. At this point I think I hugged Rachel and said, "He called me darlin'", to which Rachel replied, "He did!" I then promptly phoned my Mum, and everyone and anyone that knows me, including Hezzy! We then met some other equally lovelee people from the cast but I will squee about them and write up about the acutal show (which was out of this world!) in another post tomorrow. As for Lee.....he really moved me - I found his kindness towards me so touching. As I travelled home today from London to Glasgow I started to well up in the car. I think it had all suddenly hit me. It came to me then, just why I have so much love and respect for Lee Mead, the actor and Lee Mead the person: He is truly gifted. Not only does he have special talent, he is also a kind, loving, giving person aswell. His command of the stage is second to none, in my opinion and his voice has to be heard live in a theatre to be fully appreciated or even believed! "Close Every Door" is so powerfully emotive it is spellbinding! He is gorgeous on camera but he is an extraordinarily, strikingly beautiful man when up close - and even better when he is giving you a gentle squeeze! It was so lovelee to have him all to ourselves for a little while, Rachel, wasn't it? The quietness of the stage door area gave us and Lee the freedom to chat for a few more minutes than maybe would have been possible other wise as other fans would have been wanting Lee time too. But it was also nice to see that, given the quietness, there are obviously times when Lee and the rest of the cast are able to turn up to work without anyone asking for their time, however happy they are to give it. I've said it before but I'll say it again because now I really know it: Lee has heart. The thing with Lee is he is extraordinarily ordinary and down to earth but it is like he has magic dust sprinkled all over him. He completely lacks any notions of self-importance and yet he is very much aware of how important YOUR moment is with him without being remotely egotistical about it. He is obviously so grateful for his fans and he wants to give back when and where he can - and he does that with a smile and good grace. He was so gentle, totally relaxed and therefore I felt relaxed in his company too. Standing there with your arm around Lee Mead is quite a surreal experience but a very, very happy one!!! I will never, ever forget THAT moment! And, boy, oh, boy does he look gorgeous in the flesh - stunning! He IS a star and you should feel intimidated by stars but you are not when you meet Lee. He just says "hello" to you, person to person and makes you love him all the more for doing that! Watching him on stage yesterday, I felt so proud to be a LoveLEE and quite overwhelmed and privilieged to have met him - I hope to again! Love, Liz xxx

As promised, here is my review of Joseph from Monday 8th October. Lee Mead is NOT just some gorgeous guy who dances around in a loincloth and sings and dances a bit. Lee has truly special talent, rarely seen. As Bill Kenwright said he is a consummate. He knows musical theatre and he pulls out all the stops to give his audience and his fans the best performance he can possibly give. His fellow cast members match him with their talent and enthusiasm and, altogether, the Joseph experience is absolutely wonderful! The atmosphere in the theatre on Monday 8th October was electric. Everyone was there to see the people’s Joseph in his rightful place. It was wonderful to see Lee for the first time on stage having met him first of all off stage. A lovely generous man and a totally captivating performer. As he arrived on stage to thunderous applause and whoops of delight, the look on his face, even from as far up as the upper circle was a joy to see. He radiated happiness - this is Lee Mead in his element. The opening number “Any Dream Will Do” was a lovely touch as he sang to the children and they interacted with him. Our narrator for the evening was Fiona Reyes - what a brilliant voice she has. Why is she the understudy? (but then often the understudies should be in main role!) She held the story together very well and guided us through the various scenes. Then it was time for the Brothers - great fun! Each brother has character and all of the guys seem to be really enjoying their time in the show. In the musical numbers for the brothers, “One More Angel in Heaven” and “Canaan Days” I was reminded just how much I love the sound of a really good male chorus (and I use the word chorus loosely because they are all, of course, part of the ensemble of principals). The brothers and their wives dance with such energy and their colourful costumes match the colourful set and, of course, Joseph’s coat! There were some great moments of comedy and Lee’s sense of humour really came across! What a good sport he is to be dressed up in loincloth and knee-highs for the scene with Mrs Potiphar and her maids - Wow!!!!!!! I think everyone on that stage was enjoying themselves rather a lot! Poor Lee had to keep pulling his loincloth back into place! “Close Every Door” has to be experienced live! Lee’s voice resounds around that theatre and is so clear and strong. He has sung like that 8 times a week since the show started and he has kept his voice in extremely good shape. You can tell he’s had good training as his diaphragm expands and contracts - he has the muscle to support that gorgeous voice of his! His breath control and phrasing are brilliant too (can you tell I take singing lessons!) Lee obviously has a great deal of love for the character he is playing. He is totally engaged in telling the story of Joseph the whole way through the show and is equally suited to playing boyish Joseph and masterful Joseph! Dean as Pharaoh was fantastic - a great Elvis pastiche! I couldn’t actually keep my eyes away from Lee but Dean has some voice on him! When Joseph confronts his jealous brothers Lee delivers a really strong performance as angry and domineering Joseph - his acting here is particularly powerful! No less powerful, however, was the scene where he is reunited with his father, Jacob. Lee said in an interview once that he felt that the show was played with a real honesty and the story told with truth - no where was that more apparent than in that moment between Joseph and his father. No words were said but the atmosphere created between them and the emotional expression on Lee’s face said it all. Whether you believe in the Biblical Joseph or not, Lee gave great respect to where the original story had come from. The reprise of “Any Dream Will Do” was so touching and similarly “Close Every Door” was even more special the second time around because we all knew what to expect from it! Spellbinding! The mega-mix at the end was fabulous! It was so colourful and it was great to hear those amazing songs all over again. Lee was raised up on the plinth at the end and we all got to see his beaming smile close up. He looked so handsome in his Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat with the white shirt and jeans underneath - Lee and Joseph all at the same time! I thought fondly, “that’s our boy” - that’s who we championed all along and look at him now! As the company came bounding on to take their curtain calls I felt as elated as Lee looked - I’d had a brilliant night out and I’d met the man himself! What more could I have asked for? JOSEPH is an AMAZING show and LEE MEAD is an AMAZING JOSEPH! You simply have to go more than once!

Flew to London Friday morning and went to see the show that evening. We had a great time, the show was just wonderful. My 6 year old daughter, who doesn't speak english, was laughing a lot during the show. And although she is a big Lewis fan, she thought Lee was great (though commenting Lewis would probably be even better... ). We didn't stay to see Lee outside the theater because it was already way past her bedtime and she was getting quite tired. Peggy

"I saw the show again yesterday - the matinee was absolutely phenomenal! Lee's voice just takes you by surprise each time you hear him. I don't think I have ever heard anyone sing that good live before. I'm on a University placement in London currently and I intend to take in the show several more times while I'm here as I go back to Glasgow in two weeks. I'm going to be working in a Theatre archive so it's no surprise that some of my evenings will be spent at the theatre! The cast give such a high octane performance - the whole thing has such a feel good factor and Lee is so gracious with the crowds out front. Hat's off to the cast of Joseph - you are doing musical theatre proud!" Thanks to Liz
