Dream On - Kenwright forms boy band with Joseph finalists Published Friday 8 February 2008 at 11:10 by Matthew Hemley
Theatre producer Bill Kenwright has launched a new pop group formed of finalists from the BBC show Any Dream Will Do.
Called Dream On, the group consists of Craig Chalmers, Lewis Bradley, Chris Barton, Chris Crosby and Antony Hansen.
They release their first album, also called Dream On, next week and will be promoting it at a special concert to be held at the London Palladium on Sunday, February 17.
The album will feature songs from musicals as well as original tracks and pop classics.
Chalmers, who is currently appearing in Kenwright’s touring production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, told The Stage that the album was originally intended to feature him as a soloist, but evolved into a group after Kenwright invited some of the other performers to take part in the album’s recording.
He said there were hopes of a follow up album and a tour for Dream On if the debut release did well.
Chalmers added: “It is great to have someone like Bill behind us. He has put a lot of money into the group and believes it will work. We are not just five guys thrown together - we all know each other and became friends through Any Dream Will Do. If ever a group is going to have a chance, I don’t see why it can’t be us.”
Chalmers admitted some people would compare the group to the recently formed Teatro, made up of singers who perform numbers from musicals.
However, he said Dream On was different and would not focus purely on singing songs from the shows.
